Obituary of Melvin L Tietz

Melvin L. Tietz passed away at the Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver, Washington on May 20, 2018. He was 91 years old.

Melvin was born in Camas, Washington on August 5, 1926 to parents Fritz and Velma Tietz.  By the age of 16, he was employed at the Camas paper mill.  At 18, he married Donna Phelps, and they enjoyed 62 years together before Donna’s death in 2006.  He was honorably discharged from the Army Air Forces in 1945.  After 42 years in the mill industry, Melvin retired from the West Linn paper mill.  

Melvin, or Papa as his family knew him, was devoted to his family throughout his life.  He also enjoyed boating, gathering with friends and family at his pool, and traveling.  He will be greatly missed.

Melvin is survived by his daughter Robyn (Gary) Saalfeld and son Jerry (Deborah) Tietz of Gladstone, Oregon, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his wife Donna, and later, companion Doris Linder.  

A graveside service will be held at the Camas Cemetery on Thursday, May 24^that 10AM.  If you would like to make a donation in his memory, the family asks that you donate to the Ray Hickey Hospice House.
