Obituary of Elaine Doan

January 28, 1931- January 2, 2022 Marie “Elaine” Doan was born in Downey, California, the eldest child of Carroll and Elsie Chapman at the beginning of the Great Depression. Within a few years, the family grew to include two younger brothers whom Elaine loved dearly and helped raise as her mother passed away when Elaine was just a young girl. Sadly she lost the eldest of her two brothers shortly after her mother. Her father remarried and a few years later another son was born. One of Elaine's greatest joys was naming her new baby brother and helping raise him. Elaine married Frederick Leroy “Lee” Burton in 1949. They had three children, Johnny Lee, Lorna Overton, and Robert Michael “Mike” Burton. Elaine was preceded in death by her eldest son Johnny Lee and husband Lee. Elaine remarried Paul Doan whom she loved to laugh with. They created many fun and happy memories together prior to his death. Elaine is survived by Lorna and Mike and numerous grandchildren and great children. During her lifetime Elaine made many friends through her church families, jobs, a motor home club, and conversations she would have with total strangers. She looked forward to her routine trips to the post office, pharmacy and grocery store where she would visit with her extended circle of friends. Her best friend Ruth was always a part of the fabric which made up her life, having been “besties” since elementary school. Elaine's grandmother used to say “life is great if you don't weaken” and Elaine shared this philosophy. She was like a piece of finely tempered steel, shaped by many hardships and struggles but ultimately found peace and joy in her faith and love in the Lord. She will be missed by those if us still here but we take comfort knowing that she is now with all those of passed before her and they are together in the presence of our Lord and Saviour. A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, in Washougal, Wa. On Wednesday, January 12th at 11:00 am.
