Obituary of Madeline Louise Knapp
Madeline (Lin) Dyer Knapp, a long-time Camas resident, passed away November 16, 2023, at age 99. Madeline was born February 10, 1924, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to Roger and Grace Dyer. She graduated from New Bedford High School in 1942 and from Wellesley College in 1946. She married Hugh Knapp in 1946, and they moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where Hugh graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1948. They then returned to Hugh’s home town of Camas where Hugh began practicing law. Madeline received her teaching certificate from Portland State University and was a part time Spanish teacher at Camas High School from 1963 to 1987. Madeline enjoyed an active lifestyle of swimming, golf and walking. She and Hugh enjoyed international golf vacations, and she proudly hiked both the Rogue River and the Grand Canyon. She was an accomplished pianist and for 12 years played for Camas High School musical productions. She was preceded in death in 2007 by her husband of 61 years, Hugh. Survivors include her son, Roger and his wife Rosemary Knapp, Camas; daughter, Deborah Knapp and her husband Ash Eddy, Arizona; grandsons, Andy Knapp (Darin Reynaud), Seattle, and Elliot Knapp (Sarah Jennings), Paso Robles, CA; as well as two great grandchildren Dylan and Paige Knapp. The family wants to thank The Quarry and PeaceHealth Southwest Hospice for their compassion and care. At her request there will be no formal services. Straub’s Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas is in charge of the arrangements.
