WINONA E. HOPKINS
Winona Hopkins, age 80, passed away Monday, December 20 at home in Vancouver.
Winona Evelyn Fox was born 27 March 1924 in Macdoel, California, to Bert and Delna Little Fox. When she was four months old, they moved to Camas, Washington where Winona grew up. She went to school through her Junior year when she married Herbert McKee on 25 October, 1941. They had a daughter, Ethel Elizabeth. They divorced shortly after that and Winona married Cecil C. Hopkins on 12 February 1944. They had four children, Cecil Charles, Jr., Nancy Elaine, Boyde Lee and Randall Leroy
During the early years of marriage, Cecil, Winona and their family lived in Washougal, Camas, Rockaway, Oregon, Husum, Washington and Underwood, Washington. In 1950 they moved back to Washougal, where they bought twenty acres on Hans Nagel Road in 1953. There they built their home and raised their family. In the late 1960's they sold that home and bought a house in the Fern Prairie area of Camas. They lived there until 1975 when they moved about 10 miles up the Washougal River Road.
Winona worked for a short time in the 1980's for an accountant doing income tax returns and she was a Rubbermaid representative doing parties in homes.
Hunting, fishing, camping, huckleberry picking were a big part of life while her family was growing up. She always went hunting in the Blue Mountains for elk with Cecil.
Her hobbies were crocheting, fabric painting, doing crossword puzzles and going out to eat. In June 2004, she got to go on her dream vacation of a cruise to Alaska.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Cecil, in September 1999, her mother in March, 1995, father in November, 1976, grandsons, Steven Serna in June, 1961, Richard Schmittle in November, 1964, Randy Ray in February, 1973, and James Hopkins in June, 1997.
Surviving family are two daughters, Ethel Boggs David of Washougal, and Nancy Bradford Roger of Vancouver, three sons, Cecil Jr. Darlene of Washougal, Boyde Debi and Randall Julie of Skamania, sisters, Velda Jirges of Salem, Oregon and Linda Lethlean Pevey Lynn of Shelton, Washington, brother, Del Fox Pat of Grants Pass, Oregon, sixteen grandchildren, three step grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren, seven step great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 8 at 11am at the Skamania Community Church in Skamania, WA. Inurnment will be private at the Fern Prairie Cemetery.
