Dr. WALTER GEORGE MEYER
Dr. Walter Meyer, age 97, died February 16 at O.H.S.U. in Portland. He was born April 25, 1907 in Webster City, IA where he was raised. He attended the University of Iowa and earned his Bachelor?s and Master?s Degree?s. He then received his PhD in Chemical Engineering at Colombia University in New York. In 1937 he married Mary Moore in Warren, PA. Dr. Meyer served during WWII in the Army Air Corp. and moved to Camas in 1955. He worked for Crown Zellerbach in the Central Research Lab. He retired in 1970 and moved to Lake Oswego in 2003. Walter was a member of Orchard Hills Country Club and St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Washougal. He was also a member of T.R.O.A.A. in Vancouver.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Wittemyer in 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, at home; son Walter, Jr. of Yakima, WA; daughters, Dr. Mary Margaret Meyer of Portland, OR, Kathryn Ann Griffith of Sammamish, WA; sister, Mildred VanWinkle of Ames, IA; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Saturday, February 19 at 1pm at the Camas Cemetery. Straub?s Funeral Home in Camas is in charge of the arrangements.
