Obituary of Cresoula Demopolis Morris

Cresoula Demopolos Morris Cresoula Demopolis Morris, a Camas resident, died in Vancouver on Wednesday July 13th. She was 100 years old. Cresoula was born in Volos, Greece to George and Helen Demopolos January 6, 1905. She married Demetrious Jimmy Theodore Morris in Greece at the age of 19. They traveled by ship to the United States, arriving through Ellis Island, New York. From there, they traveled by train and arrived in Camas on July 4, 1925 where Jimmy owned a farm on Prune Hill. They raised their family on the farm and sold milk to local residents and grew vegetables and raised beef. Cresoula was an expert at crocheting and made many items for family and friends: tablecloths, curtains and doilies. She always enjoyed cooking Greek dishes and working in her garden, and prided herself as a caregiver for grandchildren and family members. On Sunday, the Morris home always welcomed the local Greek families and friends. They gathered regularly to celebrate their common heritage and traditions from the old country. She was a proud member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Portland and it?s beliefs were an important part of who she was. Mrs. Morris is survived by one son: Theodore Morris, Camas, Wash.; two daughters: Helen Varkados, Portland, Ore. And Alex Soldano, Seattle, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Jimmy and one daughter Freida Gibson. The traditional Trisagion Service will be 7pm on Tuesday July 19th at Straub?s Funeral Home in Camas. Funeral services will be Wednesday July 20th at 12 noon at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Portland, Ore. Interment will be at the Camas Cemetery.
