Obituary of Carl Arvidson

Carl Arvidson passed away peacefully, March 28, 2007, surrounded by his six children.
He was 83 years old.
Arvidson was born a twin May 29, 1923 in Vancouver, Washington to Carl Arvidson and
Susie Pickett Arvidson. He grew up and graduated from Camas High School in 1941.
When he was 19 he was skiing on Mount Hood when Pearl Harbor was bombed. He
immediately joined the U.S. Marine Corps 2nd Div. spending 27 months in the South
Pacific. He was in the Battles of Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, and Tinian. He received
four Presidential Citations and the Silver Star. He played the trombone in the U.S.M.C.
Band. He then toured with bands after the war for a couple years.
He came back to Camas in 1946 where he met and married Phyllis June Jarvis on Nov. 20, 1950. He was a lead Journeyman, and Mechanical Inspector and retired from the Camas Paper Mill in 1984. Carl was a Bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was responsible for building the first L.D.S. Church building in Washougal. He remained faithful his entire life. He was an avid golfer getting a hole in one on his last round at age 83. He loved music, laughter, family and friends. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 4278.
Survivors include; one son, Terry Arvidson of Camas, and five daughters and their husbands, Beverly and Tony Meza of Camas, Shirley and Robert Kanekoa of Camas,
Carla and Robert Nichols of Camas, Linda and Eric Balholm of Camas, and Janice and
Preston Gee of Austin, Texas: His twin Sister Jeanette Meyer from Washougal, and a
sister in-law, Marilyn Arvidson from Milwaukee, Ore. He had 23 grandchildren and 32
great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday April 2nd, at the Church of Jesus Christ of
