Obituary of George Hilton Flawn

GEORGE HILTON FLAWN George Hilton Flawn, a Vancouver resident, died Wednesday June 30th in Vancouver. He was 73. Mr. Flawn was born October 30, 1930 in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, Canada to Irene Louise Wagner and Ernest Russell Flawn. The family moved to Salem, Ore. when he was three and he attended schools there. He married Jean Bicknell in 1952 and they just celebrated their 52nd anniversary on June 8th. He enlisted in the Air Force and after his discharge they moved back to Salem where he worked as a police officer. The family made several moves in the Western States and George ended up going back to college in the late ?60?s. He graduated from Western Washington University and after graduation he moved to Vashon Island where he worked for the Coast Guard. While in their employ he obtained his Master?s Degree in Environmental Science from University of Puget Sound. He wrote the Oregon and Washington Coastal Zone Management Laws. In 1982 he and his wife moved to Vancouver to be near their children and grandchildren. He loved to travel but his family was his passion. He was a Past Commander of the American Legion, belonged to a train club and enjoyed gardening. Mr. Flawn is survived by his wife, Jean at home in Vancouver; mother Irene Munday of Sun City, Nev.; daughters Christy Baker of Vancouver, Rene Johnson of San Antonio, Tex., Melodee Robinson of Portland, Ore. And Shaelyn Fazzolari of Vancouver as well as 10 grandchildren. Graveside services for Mr. Flawn will be Monday, July 12th at 10 AM at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
