Obituary of Sophrona Marie Temple

SOPHIE TEMPLE Sophrona ?Sophie? Temple, age 85, passed away Thursday, December 8 at home in Vancouver. She was born August 25, 1920 in Harrisburg, OR to Ralph and Betty Warren. Sophie managed the Mayfair House Restaurant and then the Washington Hotel restaurant. She then went to work for the Thunderbird Company and worked at the Red Lion at the Quay until she was promoted to manage the Parker House in Washougal. It was there that she met Tom Temple and they married shortly after. Together they later opened the restaurant at Cedars golf course. Sophie was an avid golfer and was a sun goddess. She enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and Mexico. Sophie and Tom established a ministry to those who were homebound due to illness and spent much of their time bring the Word of God and Communion to those who were unable to attend church. Even after Tom?s passing, Sophie continued with this service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, in 1999. Survivors include her daughters, Sandra McFerran-McGroarty of Camas, Kim Benson of Yacolt; step-sons, Michael Temple of Portland, Greg Temple of Alexandria, VA; step-daughters, Rochelle Blair of Vancouver, Judee Batstone of Shelton, WA, Laurie Sundby of Battle Ground, WA; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A vigil service will be Monday, December 12 at 6pm at Straub?s Funeral Home in Camas. A funeral mass will be Tuesday, December 13 at 11am at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Vancouver. Inurnment will be at the Camas Cemetery. The casket will be open Monday beginning at 10am through the vigil service at Straub?s Funeral Home.
