Cancer Takes Popular Washougal Barber
Linda Lee Acker was born in Seattle, Washington on March 13,1957, and married Lee Uhlar, the long time love of her life, on February 12, 2006.
While attending Washougal High School she worked at Fred Meyers where she had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Meyer as he went through her checkout line. When Mr. Meyer asked ''How are you?'', Linda responded ''Mighty Fine''. After graduating from High School and while she was working as a dental assistant for a local dentist she discovered she would love to be cutting hair. She enrolled in Molar Barber College, and became a licensed barber/hairstylist, using her dad as her model for the hair cut and shave during the state exams. Linda's first job in her new profession was at 'Walt and Jack's' Barber Shop in Vancouver, She moved to the Washougal Barber Shop a few years later, eventually becoming co-owner.
Linda was a people person: she loved a good laugh and visiting with her many friends and customers. Always known as a giving person with a generous heart, she often used evenings and her days off to cut the hair of the housebound in their homes. She was a strong part of the Washougal community, sharing flower basket-watering duties on Main Street as well as a member of the Washougal Downtown Assn. Linda was an active participant of the Frontier Days, Christmas Lighting, Easter Egg Hunt, and barrel racing.
She had many hobbies over the years including horseback riding, water skiing; snow skiing, wind surfing and fishing. But her true passions were her flower garden, crocheting, and reading. She was also a talented carpenter. Linda loved sun, falling snow, the hot tub, feeding the deer, and of course, her special cats Murphy; Frankie, and Lily. Traveling throughout Mexico and playing in her beloved river gave she and her husband countless moments of pleasure.
She is survived by her husband, Lee, and by her parents, Wes and Marlene Acker, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, Linda is also survived by mom Evelyn Uhlar and dad John Uhlar and sister in law, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her brother Kenny in 1979.
